To mark the end of Term 2, our campus was filled with excitement as we welcomed grandparents for a special day celebrating the important role they play in our school community.
Throughout the morning, grandparents joined their grandchildren in classrooms, sharing in activities, creative projects, and performances. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to experience school life firsthand and see the engaging environment their grandchildren are part of each day.
A highlight of the event was the shared morning tea, featuring delicious cakes and a selection of teas, where guests could relax, connect, and enjoy time together. This was made even more memorable by a beautiful performance from our Primary Choir. A sincere thank you to Mrs Cross and the Choir for their uplifting contribution, which added a very special touch to the morning.
Across the campus, there was a genuine sense of connection as families spent meaningful time together, chatting, laughing, and creating lasting memories.
We are incredibly grateful to our staff and students for the care and effort that went into making the day run so smoothly. Most importantly, we thank our grandparents for the love, encouragement, and support they bring to our students’ lives. You are a valued and treasured part of the King’s community.
In Term 2, our Prep students explored an Integrated Geography unit titled “What makes a place special, and how can we care for the places God has given us?” Throughout this unit, students investigated the features of different places, why certain places are special, and how we can care for them.
The children identified five important places in their own lives and community: church, beach, home, shops, and the park. They then selected one special place to recreate as a diorama.
This was a thoroughly enjoyable experience, filled with creativity, conversation, and excitement. The classroom buzzed as students proudly shared their ideas and worked collaboratively with their peers. Our Year 6 buddies visited to admire the wonderful dioramas the students had created which was a special moment our Preps got to share.

Our High School Certificate III in Fitness and Sport Diploma students recently completed their First Aid certification as part of their studies. This valuable qualification provides students with essential lifesaving skills and practical knowledge that will support them in future careers within the sport, fitness, and health industries.
Our High School Certificate III in Fitness and Sport Diploma students recently attended an exciting excursion to the Gold Coast Suns High Performance Academy. Students gained firsthand insight into elite sport environments, athlete development pathways, and the high-performance systems that support professional athletes, providing a valuable connection between their studies and potential career opportunities.

Year 12 Digital Art students explored photography from their recent excursion to Coolangatta, using the images to develop design and visual elements for a website concept. They combined both macro, action telephoto photography and wide angle landscapes to create engaging compositions. Next term, students will bring their ideas to life by building websites that promote the southern Gold Coast beaches. The works featured here are by Megan and Hadassah.

What a semester we’ve had in the High School Performing Arts department – a time when too much is barely enough! Over the coming editions of the newsletter, we’ll share with you what’s been going on, as well as keep you up to date with what’s coming in Semester 2:
Excursions so far:
February saw our inaugural excursion with our KPAX (King’s Performing Arts Excellence) Company to South Brisbane to see ‘Crossing the Divide’ by the Gold Coast’s own Shock Therapy Arts, and visit GOMA to experience the brilliant exhibition from Olafur Eliasson: ‘Presence’. Students were challenged to ‘see differently’ in both of these contexts – one dealing with the First Nations experience of colonisation, and the other exploring the notion of perspective and how that influences our view of our world.
May brought two excursions within one week – another one for KPAX to see ‘Dakota of the White Flats’ by Red Leap Theatre with whom we had a workshop in Term 1, as well as attend a panel discussion run by QPAC’s Education team for Pathways into the Creative Industries. We finished the day with a Discovery Backstage tour of QPAC and visited the QAEMT (Qld Academy of Excellence in Musical Theatre – attached to the Griffith Conservatorium) to see what they were rehearsing for various performances, including the graduating class's production of ‘& Juliet’.
The second May excursion was to see Qld Theatre’s performance of ‘The Sapphires’ in the Bille Brown studio at their South Brisbane complex. This was specifically for our Senior Music and Drama students to learn more about the integration of narrative and music, which will feed back directly into their curriculum in the coming weeks and months. The performers were outstanding, truly versatile and thoroughly engaging, with all the students coming away full of high praise for the phenomenal skill level and talent demonstrated by all the company and crew.
June – Finally, our Year 9 Drama students (and some lucky Senior students) were able to attend the performance of ‘Koal’ at HOTA, presented by a past Gold Coast performer, Jacinta Yelland. Devised in the style of Physical Theatre, the students were astounded at her ability to swiftly develop a diverse range of characters and locations, and shift mood as she explored the devastation of the 2019 bushfires and their effects on the natural environment and communities in southern Australia. The Year 9 students will now take that experience into Term 3 when they themselves will be charged with the development of their own narrative Physical Theatre concept.
And now, in Semester 2, we have another four excursions planned, from a project day with Qld Theatre for King’s Souldiers, two Dance excursions (Bangarra and the Australian Ballet) and one final trip for Senior Music students to see the Australian Chamber Orchestra in August. Stay tuned for the reports on those experiences next term.
Performing Arts Sem 2 - Save the dates:
In Semester 2, we have some exciting performances on offer for our community:
July 29 – the preview performances of our Gold Coast Secondary School Drama Fest entries at our King’s Auditorium from 6:30pm

Some of our KPAX Company are getting excited about our first Cultural Tour to Melbourne in September, to experience some of the arts highlights in our ‘Cultural Capital’ of Australia. We will be holding some fundraising events in Term 3 to assist with some of the costs, so please join us to support this worthy cause for our talented young Performing Arts people. More information next term!

King’s Skipperoos delivered an outstanding performance at the 2026 Queensland State Championships, held at Cornubia Sports Centre. This year, 22 athletes represented the team across a range of speed, freestyle, relay, and Double Dutch events.
The team was coached by Jasmine Hawkins, with valuable support from high school student-coaches Zoe M. and Cindy X. Their leadership, encouragement, and technical guidance helped athletes compete with confidence throughout the event.
A special congratulations goes to the athletes who broke four Australian records:
TJ L. – 30 second speed sprint
J L. – 1 minute speed endurance
Kokoa A. T. and TJ L. – 2 x 30 second speed relay
Jasmine H. – 4 x 30 second speed relay
Following this successful championship, 15 athletes will continue training as they prepare for the National Championships in Darwin this September.
We are incredibly proud of all our athletes for their dedication, teamwork, and commitment, and we look forward to seeing them continue to grow and represent King’s Skipperoos on the national stage.

Year 10 KTTC students are gaining valuable real-world skills while on work experience the last two weeks. This has allowed them to explore potential career pathways and develop practical knowledge outside the classroom.
During this time, students have had the opportunity to work alongside qualified tradespeople in industries such as construction, automotive, hospitality, electrical and more. This hands-on experience has helped them understand workplace expectations, safety procedures, and the importance of teamwork, communication, and time management.
Work experience this term as allowed students to build confidence and independence as they navigate new environments and responsibilities. By applying what they have learned in their trade courses to real-life situations, students have seen the relevance of their studies and allowed them to make informed decisions about their future careers.
Overall, this experience has been an important step in helping Year 10 trade students transition from school into the workforce or further vocational training. Well done Year 10!
What a term we have had in Year 11 SDP!
Throughout the term, students participated in bushwalking, canoeing and stand-up paddleboarding, before finishing with a full-day outdoor recreation expedition. Students canoed 6km along Currumbin Creek before completing a 6km hike on the Border Track between Queensland and New South Wales.
The expedition challenged students requiring resilience and persistence as they navigated rain, capsized canoes and wet walking gear. Despite these challenges, students were rewarded with stunning scenery, meaningful connections and a strong sense of achievement at the end of the day.
To round out the term of coaching at Coolangatta Primary School and Merrimac State School, our students took on pivotal roles in supporting District Cross Country Carnivals, Under 8’s Day and Primary Athletics Carnivals. They received positive feedback from staff, parents and students for their professionalism, enthusiasm and ability to build positive relationships with younger students. Their energy and commitment contributed greatly to the success of each event.
Students should be extremely proud of their efforts and we look forward to welcoming them back for another exciting and rewarding term.
