Active School Travel Launch

King's Pimpama and the Gold Coast City Council are officially launching the Active School Travel (AST) Initiative on Tuesday, 5 March, from 7:45 to 8:30 am, this event marks a significant step towards promoting healthier lifestyles and reducing traffic congestion around our school.
The event will start at the Gainsborough Greens Sports Ovals situated on the corner of Kosciuszko and Mount Royal Streets and we encourage everyone participating to meet us at this location. Staff and Chaplains will be assisting on the way to school via Great Sandy Circuit.
The Active School Travel Initiative encourages students to embrace active modes of transportation such as walking, cycling, scootering, or catching the bus to school. By doing so, we not only promote physical activity but also contribute to creating a safer and more sustainable environment for everyone.
Come and meet the mascot for the AST program, Zero the Hero - the cockatoo, who will be at the middle back gate to say hello to everyone entering the school.

To incentivise and recognise our students' commitment to active travel, we will be awarding prizes to those who consistently choose active modes of transportation. A raffle will take place at the launch event around 8:30 am at the forecourt area for everyone involved. This event promises to be a fantastic opportunity to kick-start our initiative and generate excitement among our students.
During the Breakfast Launch, the Active School Travel team will have a coffee van set up at Gainsborough Greens Sports ovals for parents to enjoy to enjoy a coffee as they engage in discussions about promoting healthier lifestyles and reducing traffic congestion around our school. The first 50 parents will get a free coffee. Students will received a free drink, muesli bar and piece of fruit for participating in the initiative.
We will be introducing Choose Active Tuesdays, during which students will have the opportunity to participate in tracking their active travel choices through a simple show of hands during morning roll call. This data collection will enable us to monitor our progress and celebrate the efforts of our students in choosing active transportation methods.
Together, let's work towards creating a healthier, greener, and more vibrant school community. We look forward to seeing you at the Active School Travel Launch on Tuesday, 5 March 2024.
